Effortless Account Opening in HSBC UK

Today, I realized that if things are not meant to be, there will be hindrances. Here’s what happened to me…

It was already in my plan before to open a savings account because I noticed, I tend to overspend if my salary stays in my payroll account. I have my payroll account in HSBC. I thought of opening an account to another bank, just to try other banks aside from HSBC. I immediately thought of opening an account in Nationwide Building Society. Nationwide is not a bank, it is a building society but they offer the same bank products like savings account, checking accounts, investments, etc. I called their hotline and inquired about account opening. I was told to do it online. That’s what I did. I opened an account online and waited for a couple of weeks and I heard nothing from my application. I walked-in to their branch in Kingston Town Centre and they can’t see in their end the application that I submitted and I was told to do the account opening in the branch and was instructed to bring valid IDs and proof of address. The following week, I came back to Nationwide branch with my valid IDs and proof of address but there’s another problem, the statement of account from HSBC that I brought which serves as my proof of address is outdated, they want a statement that’s either March or April only. I brought a February Statement of Account. I was very disappointed, I just told them I’ll just go back some other days. I thought at that very moment, maybe I am not meant to open an account in Nationwide. This is already my 3rd or 4th attempt, and there’s always something that’s going on that’s why it’s not pushing through.

I walked out to the road and thought of opening in another bank. I saw another bank from a distance which is TSB. I do not want to go back for another day to open an account. I went inside the TSB bank branch. I approached the branch employee, “Hi, I’d like to open a savings account.” The bank employee replied, “Unfortunately, we are currently not accepting account opening because the bank is undergoing a system upgrade. The process of system upgrade is until June 2, so you can just go back then.” She then handed me a business card in case I’ll go back to have the account opening. I accepted the business card, thanked the lady and turned around and made a big sigh. I thought, “Today’s not my lucky day.”

I continued to walk and saw the HSBC branch where I had my payroll account. I thought of inquiring about account opening since I was already there. I was expecting that I will be told to schedule an appointment because that was my experienced before, and it took us hours before me and my friends finished with opening an account. I went to the receptionist and told her I’d like to open a savings account, I have my valid IDs and statement of account, I also told her I have an HSBC account. She asked me if I brought my debit card, and I said yes, and gave it to her. She then checked my account online. She said yes, I would be able to open an account with them now. I was delighted. I asked her, how long will it take for me to open an account because I remembered before, it took me an hour for the whole process to be finished. She told me, no worries, it will only take 10 mins. I said, “Great!”

I was asked to wait for 5 mins for the bank employee to be available to assist me. After a few minutes, I was called and a lady bank employee asked me to follow her and asked me to have a seat in the chair. I was told that I can do the account opening through online banking. She asked me to log on to my HSBC online banking account. It was just a few steps, few clicks and few verification of information. And since I already have an HSBC account, my proof of IDs and proof of address were already with them, I don’t need to give them these documents anymore. She guided me in the process and in less than 10 mins, I was able to open a savings account. I told her, “Oh, that was fast! I never thought that account opening could only take 10 minutes. Thank you very much!” She smiled at me and replied, “No worries.”

I realized after coming out from the HSBC branch that sometimes, even with account opening, if the universe thinks that I am not meant to have the account in Nationwide and TSB bank, I won’t be able to open an account with them. (With Nationwide, not bringing my latest statement of account for proof of address and in TSB, which currently having system upgrade). Because the universe knows that I am meant to open the savings account in HSBC effortlessly. It was also a good thing that it was in HSBC that I had my savings account opened since my payroll is under this bank, I can just easily transfer my savings right away using my HSBC Mobile Banking App. (Compared to the hassle of transferring money from one bank to another)

To end this, just like what I stated in the beginning of this article, I learned that if things are not meant to be, there will be hindrances and delays. The things in life that are meant to be yours, sometimes it will be given to you effortlessly. I can attest to this. There were lots of things that were given to me effortlessly in the past because I realized they were meant for me. On the other hand, there were things that were not given to me because thinking of it, they were really not meant for me, may it be in career, love or simple things in the everyday life. No matter how much you want something, if it’s not for you, you won’t be able to have it no matter what you do. This is already out of context but you can be sad, you can question life. But here’s my advice to you, you can question everything but DON’T EVER GIVE UP because at the end of all life’s confusion, you will realize why things happened. You will be redirected by the universe to the path that you are meant to travel to.

Guys, did you also have weird experiences opening an account? Please comment below, I would love to hear from you.
